Dr. Robert J. Cesario, retired Director of Bands and Orchestras at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has conducted a variety of college, university and high school bands and orchestras, and taught courses in conducting, music education, theory, and history as well as having been the music coordinator for Tulsa Public Schools.
Recently, he conducted the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic in Zlin, in the Czech Republic. He has also been, for 2018 and 2019, the conductor of the Symphonic and Jazz Bands at The Czech Music Camp for Youth. He hopes to return to that post following the taming of the Covid-19 pandemic.
During a 40-year varied career in music and music education he has performed, taught, given clinics, and judged festivals in Wisconsin, Missouri, North Dakota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Nebraska, California, Canada, Mexico, Switzerland, the Caribbean, Australia, and the Czech Republic.
His professional music organizations include Phi Beta Mu; NAFME; CBDNA; Missouri Bandmasters and Missouri Women Bandmasters (Associate Member) Associations; Texas Bandmasters Association; WASBE, the Texas Music Educators Association; and the International Federation of Musicians.
Since retiring from Missouri S & T he has remained active as a performer, conductor and adjudicator, as well as in his professional music organizations. He has continued to develop his hobby of photography, having had his images published in music journals, online, and in a local paper.
During the last few years, leading up to this year’s elections, he has regularly served as an election judge and has been active in local and state politics, serving as a delegate to his party’s Missouri and national conventions.
On clarinet and saxophone he has performed in concert, jazz, and commercial venues across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean. He is originally from Kenosha, Wisconsin.
