Educational Outreach – Fall 2023 Recap

Our International Board created the Educational Outreach Project at the Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic as a means of service to directors. Articles cover areas of  “Teaching Tips”, “The Profession” and “Repertoire” fitting the seasons of the teaching school year. Several of our members from a variety of chapters have reached out to share helpful articles and ideas to assist you this fall. Many thanks to the contributors – we appreciate their involvement in the project!

All the articles will remain on the PBM International website as a resource for directors, so please share with others and consult the previous submissions under the EO tab.  Best wishes as you move into the spring semester!

John McCallister Free Resources:

John is a high school band director and composer living in California. In addition to a media-rich website, he has a number of free downloadable resources for use including scale sheets, recruitment materials, materials for jazz, strings, and warm-ups.

Historic Music of Newport (ME):

This organization has chronicled a rich history of music in the region, including making several older marches available for purchase by donation on their website. If you are seeking a “new” march to add to your band’s repertoire, there are a number of compelling options.

Beginning Band:

Jim Evans is a retired band director who taught for 28 years. In addition to free downloadable scale sheets and fingering charts, Jim has a 2-volume method book for beginning band students available on his website.

Teaching Music and More:

Keith Ozvath is a band director teaching near Chicago. His website includes useful articles focusing on integrating technology into band rehearsals at multiple levels.

Educational Committee Conversations:

EO Chair Travis Weller is joined by EO Committee Member Jason Worzbyt (Nu Chapter) to talk about reigniting the passion in our teaching.
